Itinerary:

Join me for a casual hike on Sunday morning at Sweetwater Creek State Park. We will be hiking the white trail plus a small portion of the red trail at a steady but not fast pace. Sweetwater is a beautiful park to visit all year long with its scenery, rapids, mill ruins, and modern interpretive center.

We will start our hike from the visitor's center on the white trail for about 3.5 miles. This will take us past an old cemetery, remnants of the farm community, Jacks Lake, and a pretty stream. The trail then meets up and runs along Sweetwater Creek where we should see creekside flowers blooming. We then connect with the red trail for about half a mile which also runs along the creek. This is one of the most scenic parts of the park and we will take a short break above the rapids. We will continue on the red trail until we get to the mill ruins where we pick up the white trail again. This section of the white trail is known as the wildlife trail, it is not uncommon to see deer, various birds, and occasionally a box turtle. Our hike ends at the visitor's center where we started.

All of these trails have varied terrain with rocky areas, stairs, a short rock scramble, and tree roots. Study hiking shoes are recommended.

We will meet at the event, no carpool will be organized.

Dogs are allowed on a 6 foot leash. Bring water for your dog.

Entrance fee is $5.00 unless you have a Georgia State Park Pass.
