Itinerary:

Come join me for a scenic view of the Chattahoochee River and the wetlands. We wil be doing a 3.5 mile hike in 1-1/2 hours. The trail along Roswell's Azalea Drive is flat and asphalt This is a GREAT hike for beginners and people wanting to get back out to the outdoors.

This early-evening hike by the lovely Chattahoochee River has been planned to immediately precede our AOC participation in an event at the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC).   Hike registrants are encouraged to register also for the 7:00 POTLUCK DINNER and "Macroinvertebrates with Jerry Hightower" presentation hosted by our CNC Nature Club friends. We can conveniently enjoy both events without moving our parked cars.  (BTW, we hikers who also register for the CNC event are likely to get a "Double-Booking?" auto-email from the AOC website, which is of no concern since our hike will end just prior to the dinner.)

Please arrive by 5:20 pm for socializing and introductions. We'll gather for the hike in the free CNC parking lot lower level far end.  (See Address info & GPS below.). Out of respect for the majority of people who arrive on time, we will leave PROMPTLY at 5:30 pm. Our scenic "Roswell Riverwalk" route will take us along the NW shore of the Chattahoochee's "Bull Sluice Lake" to Roswell's Azalea Park - then back to the CNC via a similar route - for a total of about 3.5 miles of mostly level waterfront terrain.

There are NO bathroom facilities at this site.

The Roswell Riverside Boardwalk officially opened December 16, 2016. It is a 0.7 mile walk through wetlands and over water from the Chattahoochee Nature Center on Wileo Road to Azalea Drive.

MORE about the CNC Nature Club April Event: Macroinvertebrates with Jerry Hightower. CRNRA Ranger Jerry Hightower will be our guest as we learn about macroinvertibrates. Macroinvertebrates are the wiggly-squiggly Critters of the Chattahoochee’s Tributaries. These small animals can tell us a great deal about the health of an aquatic community. They can also give an idea of the best fish bait. We will use magnifying glasses and microscopes in our quest to investigate this small, but important, world with Jerry Hightower of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

MORE about the CHATTAHOOCHEE NATURE CENTER (CNC):  Located on a beautiful 127-acre site overlooking the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, GA (just upstream of "Morgan Falls") the Nature Center features an amazing variety of gardens, woodlands, meadows, ponds & wetlands, native plants and wild animals that showcase the natural beauty of Georgia.  Its professional staff and hundreds of member-volunteers are known especially for their dedication to protecting and promoting our state's native wild flora & fauna.  Since its founding by local citizen-activists in the 1970s the CNC has served as a focal point for for environmental education and communion with nature. Visitors who enjoy hiking are urged to explore a network of more than 2 miles of scenic trails via a fascinating variety of habitats.
The Center continues to grow and reach out to citizens as a place to explore new ideas and expand the awareness of the natural world.  Its strong grass-roots environmental learning center touches the lives of more than 100,000 children and adults each year.  This a unique place where people connect to each other and the land through a shared respect for nature - a safe place where interaction with nature excites the senses and encourages learning.  Here are some CNC links of interest:
