Itinerary:

***** THIS IS NOT A BEGINNERS RIDE *****

Urban Bike Ride: Piedmont Park Trail to Stone Mountain & Back

  - Optional -

“All are welcome to buy their own lunch at one of the local deli places and join us on a nearby shady back porch after the ride!  We'll share snapshots and chat about our morning ride."

“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.”

 John F. Kennedy

Join us for this scenic and varied urban bike ride starting at Piedmont Park, continuing briefly along the Eastside Beltline trail before heading out onto the Stone Mountain PATH near Freedom Parkway.

The route takes us through Chandler Park, Lake Claire, Decatur, Avondale, Clarkston, and finally Stone Mountain where we have the option of taking the loop route around Stone Mountain for an additional 5 miles.

Our plan is to bike ride the 18 miles to Stone Mountain and back at a 2 wheel moderate pedal pace (not too fast, not too slow) and enjoy the trails, streets and neighborhoods along the way. We can decide whether or not to cycle the loop around Stone Mountain once we get there.

Finishing time will vary but targeting 4 hours +/-.

There are rolling hills, twists and turns, and some more challenging hills - please note: this is NOT a flat Greenway or Silver Comet ride, or speed race to see who can finish first.  We will plan to stay together as a group, stopping every few miles to re-group & re-energize with a few gulps of water or Gatorade, and midstop restroom break at a local gas station/convenience store.  This is a no-drop ride so no one will be left behind. However, it is your responsibility to keep up with the group.

Notes:

1. For safety, helmet required to be worn during this event.  No helmet = No bike ride

2. Wear light or bright colored clothing and working lights on both front and back of your bike for visibility.

3. Bring a spare inner tube in case you get a flat.

4. We recommend bike or helmet mounted mirror since we’ll also be riding on the streets.

5. This is a 'no drop ride', so no one will be left behind.

6. Itinerary is subject to change.

7. Air up your bicycle tires and inspect your bicycle 1-2 days before the event.
