Itinerary:

One day - Two GA State Parks - High Falls State Park, Jackson, GA and Indian Springs State Park, Floville, GA (only eight miles apart).

We will meet at High Falls State Park and hike approx. 5 miles of trails.  High Falls State Park is named for tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River.  Visitors can hike along the river’s edge and through hilly forest to the remains of a hydroelectric power plant foundation. In the early 1800s, this area was a prosperous industrial town with several stores, a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop, shoe factory and hotel. High Falls fell from prosperity in the 1880s when a major railroad bypassed it.

THEN HOP IN OUR CARS and DRIVE 8 miles down the road to:

Indian Springs State Park is one of the oldest state parks in the nation.  Indian Springs State Park’s natural artesian spring has been used by generations of people for its flowing mineral water, that some claim to have homeopathic qualities. Produced by the pressure of the earth forcing underground water to the surface, the water at Indian Springs picks up many minerals during that process, leading to its unique “Sulphur” smell. Known to Native Americans long before the influx of Europeans, the area has always maintained a steady flow of people coming to seek healing, collect drinking water, or recreate around this natural marvel. We will hike approx. 6 miles of trails

Neither of the trails is particularly difficult, not much elevation but it will be a hike of a total of 10-11 miles.  Exploratory hike since I haven't been to either park - I have alloted 5 1/2 hours total but I think we can finish in five hours.  We will take a couple short water/snack breaks but will need to keep a pretty steady pass to complete hike in a timely manner

This is a $5.00 entry/parking fee for each park - when we leave High Falls we will try to carpool to Indian Springs to avoid each vehcile having to pay $5.00 again.  Of course if you have annual GA State Park pass bring it with you.
