Itinerary:

Every time I pass this sign on the Coosa, I get a good laugh. The club frequently does this hike as a daytrip, sometimes with side-trips added. I am opening this event to see if anyone else is crazy enough to want to tackle this rugged 13 mile trail twice in one day. The total distance for the two loops will be 26 miles and approximately 7800 feet in elevation change.

We will complete this event at a moderate but solid pace.  We'll collect at gaps, peaks, intersections, stream crossings. The first loop around the trail will be counter-clockwise. The second will be clockwise to provide some variety.A free permit is required from the park office to hike this trail. Also, a $5 parking fee is charged by the park if you do not have a state park pass.

It will be a long, hot day. Please bring at least two liters of water, plus purification (if you have it). Electrolyte replenishment is also recommended.

This hike is for advanced hikers only. Please only register for this event if you have a recent history of D6 events with the club. Trip leadership reserves the right to remove anyone they feel may not be able to complete the event.
