Itinerary:

Visited by travelers from all over the world, Stone Mountain is one of the best spots for sunset viewing in Atlanta. Sunset on July 18 is 8:47 p.m., so we will take our time to enjoy a leisurely hike. We will avoid the heavily used walk-up trail by taking a side trail through the woods to the summit.

We will meet at 8:00 near the restrooms by Confederate Hall for introductions and then head up the mountain. We will spend some time at the top taking in the view of the city skyline and watching the sunset.

Looks like we'll have near perfect weather for sunset viewing: temp 84, only 5% chance of rain, partly cloudy - so a good chance for a colorful sunset.

The hike will involve some steep sections so please bring appropriate footwear. We will descend from the top of Stone Mountain after dark, so a small headlamp or LED flashlight is recommended.

There is a $15.00 entrance fee to park inside the park or you can purchase an annual pass for $40.00. Free parking is available at Stone Mountain Village. Give yourself extra time to walk down East Mountain Street to the West Entrance of the park.
