Itinerary:

Note the earlier start time  - - a half hour earlier than the usual Tuesday morning hikes.  Holt posted a hike for Wednesday instead of Tuesday this week, so if you need a Tuesday morning "fix" with lunch afterwards, this is the one for you!

We'll keep a moderate pace and enjoy friendly conversation and beautiful scenery.  If you're a camera buff, there will be several photo opportunities as we circle this lovely park dedicated to the memory of Leita Thompson.  (You can read her story on bronze plaques near the pavilion.) The trail around Leita Thompson "undulates," but there is nothing steep.  The trail is wide and even, so it's a really great place for a safe hike.  We can stop periodically if needed, though our pace will not be too challenging.

This is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs on the trail.  You are welcome to bring your dog as long as you keep it on leash and clean up any messes that it makes.  There is a fenced in "off leash" area if you'd like for your dog to be able to run free and play with other dogs.

A little more information on the park:

There are no bathrooms, but there are three areas with porta-johns throughout the park.

We will start the hike on time, so please arrive 5 - 10 minutes early to meet everyone and check in. We'll be parking in the big overflow lot, and NOT the small pavillion lot.

If you have time after the hike, please plan to join us for lunch at Panera Bread - - just 1/4 mile from the park.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

N 34.06315,  W -84.40678

1523 Woodstock Rd

Roswell, GA 30075

There are three parking lots in the area:  one for the dog park, the second for the arts center  and overflow lot, and the third for the pavillion lot.  We will be parking in the second lot, to the left of the arts center.

From Atlanta take GA-400 N to exit 7B W/Holcomb Bridge Rd in Roswell. Continue west on Holcomb Bridge Rd for 5.7 miles. On your right you will pass Chick-fil-a and Mountain Park Rd. Take the next right. This is the entrance for the dog park and Art Center West.  Make an immediate left for the gravel overflow parking lot

If you pass this entrance, you will come to the main Leita Thompson entrance at the pavilion.  You can turn in here and then take an immediate right up the gravel path to the overflow lot.  Drive up the gravel road through the woods and park at the top of the hill.
