This GA-AT Ultra 50K may be the answer; and it’s free for every AOC member.

Distance is 32 miles, elevation gain is 8,000+ feet, and the estimated time is 12 hours. There is plenty of time if we just maintain a min. pace of 2.7 mph. There is no cut-off time, we can take as much time as we want.

The faster we finish, the deeper we breathe, the more calories we burn.

  1. Woody gap (0 mile); Starting line going AT NoBo (North Bound);
  2. Big Cedar Mt (1.3 miles);
  3. Blood Mt (8.6 miles);
  4. Neels gap (11 miles); General store supply available for purchase & free water refill;
  5. Levelland Mt (12.5 miles);
  6. Cowrock Mt (16 miles); Turn-around Point going AT SoBo (South Bound);
  7. Levelland Mt (19.5 miles);
  8. Neels gap (21 miles); General store supply available for purchase & free water refill;
  9. Blood Mt (23.4 miles);
  10. Big Cedar Mt (30.7 miles);
  11. Woody gap (32 miles); Finishing line.

 

Course Features

  1. Woody gap is close to Atlanta and Dahlonega GA. It can be reached in about 1 hour with a large parking lot.
  2. General store supply available for purchase and free water refill at Mile-11 and Mile-21 from Neels gap.
  3. Navigation is straight-forward and easy to follow along AT NoBo and SoBo. This is critical since we’re likely to get separated.
  4. Early exit is available from Neels gap if necessary.
  5. There are many summits and lookouts with excellent scenery along this course.
  6. 50+K (30+ miles) with 8,000+ feet elevation gain.
  7. Duration can fit into a one day’s daylight time.

This event is physically challenging and rewarding! You can fully enjoy it if and only if you have good fitness and endurance. Please only register if you are familiar with going long distance in the remote mountains environment. You must have D6 experience to qualify.

If your recent experience is not from the club, please include it in a note when you register, or email TL; otherwise you will be moved to the waiting list for the safety of everyone. We encourage our members to actively participate with joyful experience, and most importantly to stay healthy and safe at the end of our event.


Required Items to Bring:

 

Headlamp (It may be dark in the beginning and the end)

Carry enough water, nutrition/ snacks (at least for 10 miles before refill is available)

Clothing suitable for the season

Good trail running/hiking shoes

If you're in other member’s car, bring change clothing, an extra pair of Clean shoes, bag for changed shoes, towel to sit on. Only enter with clean shoes. Remove all trash and your belongings.

Cash for carpool driver.

Take GA-400 N to its end; turn left onto US-19 N for 5.1 miles.

Turn right onto US-19 N/ GA-9 N for 8 miles.

At the fork of US-19 N and GA-60, follow GA-60 for 5.4 miles to Woody Gap parking lot.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $36.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
