Itinerary:

This is our usual time slot for our Beginners Welcome hike - - but because of the distance of this event, true beginners are cautioned. Though we have a lunch break in the middle of the hike, the distance will ultimately be around 6 miles.

Dozens of visual works of art from local to international artists have transformed the Atlanta BeltLine into a linear gallery space. Over 50 dynamic art installations have been erected along the Eastside railroad corridor.  These installations are temporary and will be on display only until mid-December; so grab this chance to see the spectacular displays on a leisurely walk with fellow AOC members.

The Beltline hike is flat, so elevation change will not be a problem.  We'll be walking at a very comfortable pace and stopping frequently to appreciate all the exhibits we pass. Distance will be the only challenge for people who are new to hiking.

We'll gather behind the Publix supermarket  (parking lot on the right side) off Monroe Avenue (see street address and coordinates below) and access the Beltline behind the supermarket, where we'll travel north through Piedmont Park to Ponce City Market. We'll stop there for lunch.  Then, we'll head through the Old Fourth Ward to the Freedom Parkway, where we'll take the Beltline all the way back to our cars.

Bring your camera or plan to use your cell phone for the many photo opportunities you'll have.  You can get a preview of some of the art we'll be seeing at:  https://www.facebook.com/joyce.taaffe/media_set?set=a.10157298605685260&type=3
