Itinerary:

It's been a long time since I have been back to Black Rock Mountain State Park, so come and join me for a winter hike that should have great views over the surrounding area if the weather permits.

We will do the 7.2 mile James E. Edmonds back country trail as well as the 2.2 mile Tennessee Rock Loop Trail, if time permits we may go and see Ada-hi Falls, a short .25 miles!

James E. Edmunds Trail:

This 7.2 mile double lollipop trail is rated moderate to strenuous with a few steep sections. We will take the west fork of the trail first descending down from 3446 feet to 2241 feet at Black Rock Lake, after passing the lake we will continue on until we get to Looooff Mountain stopping for food and to take in the view across Wolffork Valley. We will return via the east fork of the trail  passing Scruggs Knob and climbing up and out until we reach the start of the Tennessee Rock Trail.

Tennessee Rock Trail:

The Tennessee Rock trail is an easy to moderate trail that is around 2.2 miles, it passes through many woodlands and also has many vistas that we will stop to admire the view.  We will stop at the summit of Black Rock Mountain and take the obligatory photos before we head back to our cars.

I will allow up to 3 well behaved dogs on this trip, as per park regulations they will have to be kept on leash.

This is a tough hike and if you do not have any recent D3/D4 experience I will be contacting you to see if you are suitable for this trip.

I plan to stop for food after the hike in Clayton, plan your carpool accordingly.
