Itinerary:

The Cherokee Trail, also known as the Stone Mountain Loop, circles the mountain for a hike of about 5.5 miles PLUS up to the top of the mountain, plus we will take a jaunt in the campground area near the covered bridge.   Let's get the climb done first and then enjoy the scenic portion of the hike.  The scenic hike takes us past two lakes, an old time gristmill, a historic covered bridge, and offers great views of the mountain. At times we will hike on exposed granite and at other times be will hike along wooded trails. Plan on maintaining close to a 2.5 to 3.0 speed.  We will meet at the restrooms near the Confederate Hall.  Let's meet there at 9:45 AM to start the hike at 10 AM.

Our total distance is 8 miles with 1000 ft elevation gain.
