Itinerary:

With Lake Allatoona being in a low pool state, the exposed red clay and rocks along the shoreline make it look like the Mars rover has landed and is beaming back surface photos!  It is quite beautiful.  Be advised:   by hiking on the shoreline we will be stepping on and scrambling over rocks of various sizes, climbing over some downed trees, and potentially avoiding some mud.  If it has rained a lot in the past 24 hours, we may not hike much on the shoreline and will just go back to the regular trails.  Also, a lot of the time we will be walking sideways across the embankment of the shore.  The park staff say this is a great hike and we are welcome to hike the shoreline.  Hope to see you!

There is a normal $5 parking fee at Georgia State Parks.  But, there are many options related to fee payment such as senior discounts, annual passes, and library parking loaner cards.
