Itinerary:

This is an awesome in and out trip into the heart of the Cohuttas.  The Beech Bottom Trail is an old country road that was used to reach the farms just upstream from the crown jewel of the Cohutta Wilderness:  The Jacks River Falls.

I am organizing this trip for those who may be new to wilderness hiking. But it will be fun for anyone!  We hope beginners will use it as an opportunity to get out there on the trail.

The pace will be slow to accommodate anyone who doesn't wish to go fast and to allow us ample time to look around and take photos along the way.  We will stop briefly at the waterfall at the turn around point of the hike and have lunch.  For those who wish, we will scramble and climb up the hill from the falls to get back on the trail and, in doing so, cut off about a mile of the trail that goes back around the bottoms area [see map below].

Things to know:

-distance 8-9 miles

-elevation gain 1900 feet

-some shallow water crossings of Beech Creek [people don't usually use water shoes for these]

-if you are driving A regular vehicle can travel on the roads of the wilderness without issue although it is a gravel and dirt road.

Here's our hike map.
