Spring is in the air, winter is ending, and people are going out to hike. Let’s make sure the trails at Kennesaw Mountain are ready for the additional hikers. Come join your fellow AOC members for this Trail Maintenance Day at Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield.

Volunteers perform trail maintenance on the 20+miles of trails at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club provides Crew Leader supervision, tools, work gloves (or bring your own), water and snacks. Volunteers should wear work clothes and comfortable closed toed shoes.

We will stay together working as a group & follow the instructions of our Crew Leader(s). We will learn the procedures of how to make our trails better for today & for the future.

March 9, 2019 Trail Work Day Plan, We will tackle the Noses Creek Trail from the Burnt Hickory road parking lot to the uphill section just south of Noses Creek. This will involve several workdays on and off between March and through the summer. The work will involve almost everything we know including construction of knicks, dips, ditches, berm removal, removal of dead roots in the trail, rock removal, filling of ruts, a little rock step work, and maybe a little side hilling, French drains, and a little fence work. Three things we must keep in mind for this work are 1) drainage, 2) drainage, and 3) drainage.

If there is a rainy-day cancellation, we are tentatively scheduling a make-up date for March 16th. Same time and location.
