Itinerary:

Join me for a pre-beginner backpacking event for the events that I'm hosting in early April and early May. We'll meet at 11am go over some gear options, set packs properly if needed, a shakedown or two if needed too and then we'll be on the trail. I have 90 minutes for the 3 .1 miles, it shouldn't take that long, but that's to include the shakedown and pack check prior to getting on the trails...and another reason we're meeting in the paved lots up by the soccer fields.
This event will be relatively short in distance, but we'll even see some nice elevation and various terrain as I take you along what I affectionately dub my "training grounds!" Conditions have been a little sloppy, so be prepared for some loose terrain - trekking poles are always advised.
Everyone is to wear a backpack with gear in it to weigh in at a minimum of 10 pounds.
As I mentioned this is a beginners backpack training event so, please know that going in to this...you must have a pack on your back...even if it's a camelbak with 10# of sand in it...I will have a scale ;)
Yes, you can also attempt a 50 pound pack, if you feel up to it...but if you can do that, you're probably not a beginner...let's try easing in to this...injuries are no fun!

Conveniently located in historic Roswell, GA, the historic "Vickery Creek" unit of the Chattahoochee River Nat'l Recreation Area (CRNRA) boasts an amazing variety of shady creekside and ridgetop trails and is one our Club's favorite places for hiking (mine for sure). We'll be re-grouping at the top of the bigger climbs, but there are no formal stops planned (we'll play that by ear).

So - if you're on the list for either of those events, or you just want to try your hand at a short backpack trianing hike...this is it. C'mon out!

Then be sure to sign up for the Monthly Social at NRT at 4pm! Cheers! https://www.atlantaoutdoorclub.com/event/details.asp?eventid=16746

Oxbo Road, UP Dobbs Road (around the city facilities building), continue around the bends until you see the large parking lots - we'll be right off the outside edge, so we don't get tangled up in the kiddie sports chaos

The address is near :::

Arrive 10-15 minutes early to get head count and intros in...after all I'm a newbie I might even make y'all pose for a photo :)
