Itinerary:

This is it - - our 5th hike of the day to celebrate el Cinco de Mayo.  Join us on one of them, two of them, or even all of them if you like!  Wear a sombrero, and get into the spirit of the day!

We'll take this last hike at a pretty fast pace, therefore, it is NOT a hike for beginners or for folks who can't maintain a brisk pace for 2 hours (with few stops).  Keep in mind that the terrain throughout this hike is often rocky and root-laden. We'll start at the VISITOR CENTER lot, walk along the river, go around the lollipop trail, and return via the inner trails.

We'll meet at the VISITOR CENTER lot, which is almost a mile past the entrance gates.  Keep driving past the Hewlett Pond parking lot, staying on the main road until you can't go any further.  The Visitor Center has bathrooms, but they close at 5 pm - - so arrive early if you want to take advantage of them.

We'll start the hike promptly at 5:00 pm, so arrive at least 10 minutes early to meet everyone before we start, pay your parking fee,  and use the bathrooms.  There's a parking fee of $5.00 in this park, so be sure to have the correct cash so you can pay at the kiosk.

Since we'll be going at a fast pace, we're not inviting dogs along on this hike.  The trails are sometimes narrow with lots of roots, so dogs can become a tripping hazard.

After this hike, if anyone wants to extend the day with dinner or a beer, we can head to the North River Tavern.  It has good food and is very close to Island Ford.  We can see if anyone is interested after our hike.  The address for the tavern is 8879 Roswell Rd, Sandy Springs, GA 30350.
