Itinerary:

Join me for a beautiful hike in the North Georgia Mountains. We'll start from the Dockery Lake Recreation Area and follow the Dockery Lake Trail to Miller Gap on the Appalachian Trail. There are several easy stream crossings on the Dockery Lake Trail. For a mile or more you can hear the soothing sounds of the running stream.

Once reaching Miller Gap, we'll take a left on the AT and hike approximately 1.7 miles to Preaching Rock. This is a famous overlook near Woody Gap. We'lll have lunch at the overlook, then re-trace our steps. Total distance is about 11 miles.

Notwithstanding the fact that we will not maintain a fitness pace, this is not a beginner's event. Participants should have experience with D4 and/or D5 level hikes. In addition to distance, we will have several tough climbs.

Notes:

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
*Note:

At the time of this posting, the weather report is good. I will cancel on a case by case basis for terrible weather. In summer, we don't mind hiking in the rain, as long as lightning is not a problem.
