This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Goals: #1: Spend two days/one night in cooler climate. #2: Hike a challenging loop with amazing vistas mostly on the AT.  #3: camp where there are clean bathrooms and even showers.  This is a car camping shuddle requiring at least two if not three vehicles depending how many pariticpate.  We will arrive at Standing Indian Campground (SIC) around 9:45 a.m. Sat. to set up camp. A couple of us may go up Friday to grab a camp site(s). (Standing Indian Campground has mostly walk-up first come first serve campsites.  The few reserved campsites are taken)

After setting up camp we will drive SOBO 5 mi. in one or two cars to Big Laurel Falls parking, leaving one car at SIC to store food/some camping gear.  We will then hike 1.2 mi. (there and back) to Big Laurel Falls. Then we hike 2.3 mi. south on Timber Ridge Trail to the AT.  We will go left (Counter Clock-wise) heading NOBO to Mount Albert (5250 ft.) on the A.T.  Once over Mount Albert we descend to Glassmine Gap at 10 mi. on the A.T.  Then we head east for 2 mi. back for the night at SIC. We will stay together or at a minimum gather at pre-designated trail intersections.  (15.5 mi. total)

Sun. morning we will break camp, storing all gear in the car.  Then take the pristine Kimsey Creek trail (3,7 mi.) to the A.T. at Deep Gap.  Then, we will hike SOBO 8 mi. on the A.T. over Standing Indian Mountain (5,500 ft.) back to Timber Ridge Trail. Then head north 2.3 m. back to our car(s). (14 mi. total) We then depart for Atlanta (about 2.5 hrs.)

Total elevation gain for two days 4800 ft.
