This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join me on a wet and wild hike through the Cohutta Wilderness.

We will be crossing the Conasauga River and Panther Creek many,  many times as we make our way to Panther Creek Falls, one of the most scenic falls in Georgia.

We will start our adventure at Betty Gap and make our way downhill to the Conasauga River. We will then make our way, downhill for 4.7 miles to the intersection of Panther Creek. We will turn right up the Panther Creek Trail for 1.3 miles to the top of Panther Creek Falls. The journey to the top of the falls will be steep with difficult terrain. Once at the top, we will soak up the beautiful vista and enjoy the mist of the falls while we eat our lunch, some of us may even take a quick swim!  After lunch we will retrace our steps to complete our out and back adventure.

We can expect 20+ river fords with water up to waist deep, but mostly knee/ankle deep. You will need to wear shoes acceptable to hike in wet all day, as we will not be stopping to change shoes at every ford.

This is an adventurous and strenuous hike, recent D5 experience is a must for this event.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $44.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

I will be tracking the flow of the Conasuaga in the days leading up  to our hike. If the river levels are too high,  we will  be taking an alternate route to the falls.

This is a fair weather hike, if a high chance of rain is in the forecast, the event will be rescheduled.
