Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Northbound will go from Dyer Gap to Watson Gap and then up to Spanish Oak Gap before descending down the Hemptop Trail to Dally Gap.  Southbound does the opposite.

We are walking within earshot of Jacks River, but for the most part, the river is just out of sight of the trail.  At Mill Branch there is an old house site and clearing point to civilization in the not-too-distant past in this remote valley.  Hemp Top (3580'): highest point on this section. Site of old firetower. Winter views to north, east, and west. There are no river fords.

The plan:  Three vehicles will be used to drive to the trailheads and a split of the group will be determined by your trip leaders. Preference to attendance will be given to those who have a high clearance vehicle (no corvettes) and are willing to drive.  FYI - my Subaru or your CRV will make it fine...

There is no "meet at event" because of the key swap.

You must have recent hard D4 or a D5 experience to be on this hike.
