Itinerary:

The battle of Utoy Creek was fought in this area during the Civil War, and some trenches can still be seen. The Preserve is one of the oldest forests in Atlanta, and the alkaline waters from the local springs  became popular at the beginning of the 20th century. An exclusive resort was built at this site, including a hotel and a restaurant, and until the 1950s the spring water was actually bottled and sold. There are stands of beautiful beech, oak, & magnolia trees. There is abundant wildlife, including turtles, fish, deer, predatory birds and song birds. It also has some interesting ruins. The 120 acres of this park, although ensconced within the city limits and close to I 285, are remarkably clean and peaceful. After walking a few minutes you will not even realize that you are in the city.
