Itinerary:

Come and find out why Panthertown Valley (http://www.panthertown.org) is referred to as the Yosemite of the East on this scenic 12 mile hike.  If you are allergic to water, please do not sign up since there are 4 knee deep water crossings along with the opportunity to see 10 waterfalls.

The carpool will leave SATURDAY MORNING AT 6:30 AM. For anyone that likes to arrive fashionably late, you will only find a fashionably desolate parking lot. There will be a 2.5hour drive to Cashiers NC and the west parking lot.

we will make a loop starting from the western parking lot.  At key points of interest (listed below) we will stop for 5 minutes for photos and to take in the scenery.  The group will stop at all trail intersections (Panthertown is a maze of trails) to avoid loosing too many hikers.  Most of the hike is easy with a couple of mild climbs.

Major Points Of Interest:

+ The Overlook (not a waterfall; just a really nice overlook).

+ Riding Ford Falls (view from the top of the waterfall).

+ Jaybone Falls.

+ Warden's Falls (view from the top of the waterfall via optional steep side trail).

+ Schoolhouse Falls (We will take an extended 20 minute break for lunch).

+ Mac's Falls (via optional side trail).

+ Pothole Falls (via optional steep side trail).

+ Greenland Creek Falls.

+ Granny Burrell Falls.

+ Frolictown Falls.

+ Wilderness Falls.

On the way back home we will make an optional stop for dinner stop in Clayton.

Dogs are permitted. Aggressive dogs (and hikers) are not acceptable. If you hate the smell of wet dog (or hiker), you may want to find another hike since odds are both will be wet by the end of the hike.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $104.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

There are bears in the Panthertown Valley.  You do not need to outrun the bear, you just need to outrun the slowest person in the group.
