***** NOT A BEGINNERS or D4 HIKE *****

For new members and/or members without recent D5 hiking related experience, please email the trip leader explaining your recent long distance hiking experience and hiking pace.  Please don't take it personal, but you may be moved to the waiting list until we hear back from you and approve you for this hike.  We want everyone to have an enjoyable and fun hiking experience.

There are many scenic vistas on the Appalachian Trail (AT) within a couple hours driving time of Atlanta, but perhaps none more so than Siler Bald. With a summit of 5,216 feet it offers a sweeping 360 degree view of the surrounding valleys and rolling hills. And while there is almost 1500 feet in elevation gain to the top, most of it is fairly gradual on this portion of the AT. The total hiking distance will be a approximately 11 miles.

We'll plan to hike 5.5 miles out on the AT and return back the same way we traversed.  We'll also stop for a quick snack at the top of Siler Bald and enjoy the views and soak in the sun.

Check Out The Below Notes:

If you don't like to chat, joke, socialize, or have a good sense of humor, this is probably not the hike you want to be on. This hike is intended to be invigorating, fun, and social :)

Hiking speed can vary, but plan on hiking anywhere from a moderate to fast pace. If you're not sure you can keep up or wanna keep up with the group pace, this hike may not be a match for you.

Be sure to take your camera or camera phone - excellent place to take photos at the top of Siler Bald!

Optional:  Group permitting and willing, we may drop by downtown Clayton for a quick bite to eat on our return trip back to the carpool.
