Itinerary:

Cumberland Trail Signal Point to North Suck Creek

In case you haven't heard, I LOVE the Cumberland Trail! Join me and find out why I think it is so awesome.

The Cumberland Trail is an ambitious hiking trail project currently under development. When completed, the CT will extend more than 300 miles from the Cumberland Gap in Kentucky to Signal Point, just outside of Chattanooga.  Currently over 200 miles are open with the trail slated for completion in late 2019.  Additionally, the CT is part of the Great Eastern Trail, which is under development and will extend from Alabama to New York when completed.

Signal Point to North Suck Creek

This section is filled with gorges, vistas, steep bluffs, waterfalls, rock formations, arches and awesome suspension bridges including a 225-foot bridge over North Suck Creek.

If you are looking for a hike on an iconic trail with tons of cool stuff to see, this is your hike! We will be stopping at all points of interest for picture taking and high hilarity. This is an out and back hike with too many points of interest to list, trust me it will be AWESOME!

We will be starting on the Rainbow Lake Wilderness Trail, just over 1/2 mile of downhill hiking will take us to Middle Creek where a suspension bridge will bring us across to our junction with the CT. Out of the gorge we will hike until we get to the top and head towards Edwards Point Overlook. We will stay on top of the gorge crossing streams and viewing vistas until we encounter the majesty that is Mushroom Rock. After enjoying this natural wonder, we descend into the North Suck Creek Gorge. At the bottom of the gorge a majestic bridge awaits us and lunch will be had. We will follow the trail back to our cars with our hardest ascent coming right after lunch.

This is a 13 mile hike with 2600 feet of ascent, there are multiple trail intersections, so it is imperative that the group stay together.

You must have recent D5 experience and be comfortable with a pace on the fast side of moderate.
