Because of a glitch in the registration process, we've run into the problem of having too many members added to the active list above the maximum limit of 20. Please be aware that we will be moving members above 20 registrants to the waiting list in the order of their registration times. People will then be added to the active list as we have withdrawals.

Let's get in our last Monday morning hike before the holidays with a moderate hike starting at Sope Creek Elementary School where parking is ample and free. The kids will be on their winter break, so the lot will be empty! The school lot is about 1/4 mile down Papermill Road from the Sope Creek parking lot.

We'll hike for 2 hours, getting in around 4.5 miles. We'll stop by the Sope Creek ruins on both sides of the creek, quite a sight for those who haven't seen them!

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. Please be willing to keep your dog on leash out of consideration to other hikers, because it's the law and because the reputation of the AOC is damaged when members break the leash law.

Limit of 3 dogs, please!

The Sope Creek Elementary School parking lot is on Papermill Road, about 1/4 mile from Sope Creek parking lot. If you're coming from Johnson Ferry Road, so about 1/2 mile past the Sope Creek bridge, to Sope Creek Elementary School on your left. If you're coming from I-75 on Papermill, it will be on your right at the traffic light at Shadowlawn Road. When you turn into the school parking lot, go to the large lot on your left and park all the way at the end.
