Itinerary:

DISCLAIMER: This is a guided, exploratory hike. In other words, although we have a guide, I (like you) will learn about the trail as we go! Also, there is a $10 charge per person for the hike - payable in cash to the Panola State Park staff. That said...

WHAT: Get your pre-Holiday season workout done early this year on this approximately 5.7 mile traipse through the winter wonderland of the State Park to the summit of the 3rd Monadnock in the area: Panola Mountain. I am given to understand that the hike, led by a State Park staff member, will be at a moderate pace over the distance, with some stops along the way to point out the unique flora and fauna of the area. Once at the summit, we'll tag the geo-marker, catch our breath, take some photos, and then head back to the parking lot.

Although most of the hike is along wooded trails, we do walk over several patches of exposed granite which can be fun and dangerous at the same time. Please make sure you wear appropriate footwear with good traction so that you can tackle the (sometimes) slick granite.

WHERE: We'll meet in front of the Panola Mountain State Park Nature Center office, near the start of the trail. For a detailed map of the Park, go here:

https://gastateparks.org/sites/default/files/parks/pdf/trailmaps/PanolaMountain_TrailMap.pdf

WHEN: The hike will start promptly at 9:00 AM so plan to arrive by 8:45 for introductions and (if necessary) a run to the potty.

HOW MUCH:

1. Unless you have a GA Park Pass, there is a $5 State Parks parking fee payable at the entry kiosk

2. There is a $10 per person charge for this hike, payable to the Park Staff.
