Itinerary:

Exploring Georgia's State Parks - a new experiment to visit some of the less-traveled among the 48 parks.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is located near Newnan GA and only an hour's drive southwest of Atlanta. With about 2900 arces, CBSP is one of the largest parks in the state. Opened only 8 years ago, it is also one of the newest, protecting a 6-mile stretch of natural river front.

We will gather at the park's visitor center from where we follow the Turkey Hill trail for ~4 miles down to the Chattahoochee. Taking a sharp right turn the trail closely follows the river for the next 4 miles before it winds its way through the hills to a lookout where the Chattachoochee takes a 90 degree turn (... and the park gets its name from). We next follow a forrest road back up to the starting point of the Turkey Hill trail which will take us back to the visitor center.

The combined distance for the hike is ~12 miles with a total of ~2000 ft (gradual) elevation gain.
