12:45 PM Saturday Update:  EVENT CANCELLATION by NATIONAL PARK SERVICE!
Sorry to have to let you know that we just got the word from Ranger Jerry Hightower and other "Friends of the Chattahoochee" that the Wolf Moon Gathering today and our AOC "Pre-Hike" both have to be canceled
due to the wintry weather and the icy condition of some of the metro-area roads & bridges.  We look forward to offering both nice events again for the AOCto enjoy next winter! -  Charlie & Jerry

Weather Advisory from Charlie as of 11:00 AM Sat
for Jones Bridge CRNRA vicinity:  We’re still ON for everything as planned for any of you who still wish to do our AOC “Pre-Hike” or the "Wolf Moon Winter Gathering"!  As you’ve probably noticed it’s been snowing in metro Atlanta this morning. The good news is that the Nat’l Weather Service expects temperatures in the Roswell-Norcross area to rise quickly into the mid- to high-30s by noon today and stay above freezing till well after midnight, with no more than about ½ inch of snow accumulation and very little icing of the roadways & bridges – also hardly any more rain.  I hope most of you will still be able to join us as announced for the Hike and Wolf Moon Party, but no problem if you decide to “bail” for whatever reason.   I’ll still plan to meet you “Pre-Hikers” at the Ed Center at 2:45PM – then we’ll gather at ~4:45 at the Ed Center’s upstairs kitchen & deck area with other Wolf Moon attendees & our party hosts. (BTW, Jerry Kelley says there's a chance he might not make it himself since it’s a bit icy where he lives up in Forsyth County.)  Cheers!  - Charlie

Hope you can join us for this scenic moderately paced 2-hour hike in the beautiful "Jones Bridge" park unit of the Chattahoochee River Nat'l Recreation Area (CRNRA) between Roswell and Norcross.  It's specially planned to immediately precede our AOC participation in another nice event hosted by our Nat'l Park Service friends - see more below!

We'll park in the FREE parking lot of the Chattahoochee River Environmental Education Center.  (See special Directions & GPS info belowIt's about a mile south of the main Jones Bridge parking lot where we normally gather for AOC hikes.)  We'll gather by the Ed Center a few minutes before 2:45 PM and hike northward to our usual gathering vicinity and back - i.e. a "Reverse Jones Bridge hike."

Just after the hike, we hope you can stay awhile and enjoy the annual "Wolf Moon Winter Gathering," including a festive Dinner Party & Campfire at the Ed Center.    It's hosted each year by our good friend, Jerry Hightower and other CRNRA rangers and supporters.  We've always had a blast in past years!  CLICK HERE for that AOC article and if you're interested please register separately for that event or its wait list:  https://www.atlantaoutdoorclub.com/event/details.asp?eventid=18099
