Explore this popular section of the Appalachian Trail from Woody Gap to Blood Mountain. It's about 8 miles from Woody Gap to Blood Mountain. We'll need to keep up a moderate pace to reach the summit of Blood Mountain around 12:30, where we will enjoy a relaxing lunch. Then we will head back the way we came. There are some decent climbs and descents, with a total of 2450 feet in elevation gain on the ascents, and about 1100 feet of elevation loss on the descents to Blood. On the way out, we will have to regain that 1100 feet of elevation loss, much of it coming near the end as we make our way back to Woody Gap.
It should be somewhat cold and sunny conditions. Please bring layers and at least two liters of water. I will vet people who sign up for this hike, so be prepared to let me know your relative experience doing similar type hikes. I want to make sure the group completes the hike comfortably and during daylight hours.
|How to Get There:|
North on GA 400. Take a left onto SR 60/19 toward Dahlonega. At the fork of SR 60 and SR 19, go straight on SR 60. The trailhead is on the right at Woody Gap.
