Itinerary:

Ok, short notice for a weekday D5, but the weather forecast looks great, so figured would give it a shot...

The plan for this hike is to first take a quick walk down to the little waterfall about 5-10 min away from the trailhead.  I'm not sure how much it will be flowing, but worth a quick detour to check it out.  Then we will head up a ridge, off-trail, until we intersect with Yonah Mountain Road, near the bathrooms and Army Rangers staging area.

From there, we we will take the main trail to the summit, enjoy the views, and head down a bit, where we will jump on the side trail to Pink Mountain.  This is not an official trail, but close enough, and it's a nice trek over there.

On the way back from Pink Mtn, we will leave the trail again and head up the Southeast side of Yonah.  This is off trail, and I have figured out a good route that works it's way around the rocky cliff areas.   But this is a fun and slightly adventurous way to go up and avoids all the crowds as well.

After some more time enjoying the epic views from near the summit, we will head down, mostly staying on the regular trails.

Total distance is about 7 mi and total ascent is about 3000'.  I am estimating the hike will take around 5 hrs, but could be a bit longer or shorter.  But some of the steeper terrain will slow us down quite a bit.

Trekking poles are recommended, and if you have some footwear traction devices like microspikes, they would be helpful on loose leaves or any muddy areas.  They are designed for snow and ice, but I wear mine fairly often when hiking off trail.  I have some extra microspikes that I will bring, in case anyone wants to try them.

It should be a great day to be on Magical Mount Yonah and hope you can join us !
