Join me for a great look at one of Georgia's crown jewels!

Registration:  This trip is set to waitlist only.  There is space for a total of 6 members.  If you wish to attend, add yourself to the waitlist and I will contact you for approval and payment.  Payment is due immediately after you have been approved.  THERE IS A TOTAL OF 6 SPACES.

The trip:  We will take the lunchtime ferry over to Sea Camp dock to begin our 3-day trip.  We will be hiking and camping at Hickory Hill, Brickhill Bluff, and Stafford Beach before returning on the afternoon ferry on our last day.  At each site, we have reserved one site.  There is room for six small tents, but be aware it will be somewhat close quarters.  Bring earplugs for sleeping.

*mileage listed is minimum based on point to point distance, actual miles will vary depending on how much extra exploring we do

May 2:  Sea Camp to Hickory Hill, 5.5 mi.

1045 meet at Visitor's Center in Saint Marys to pay the park entrance fee, check-in for the ferry, prepare to load backpacks [write your name in sharpie on your stove fuel and keep it handy, it will be packed separately by the crew for the trip over due to fire code]

1145 ferry departs for the island!

1230 arrive at Sea Camp and have backcountry Ranger meeting/permitting

1330 hike to Hickory Hill

May 3:  Hickory Hill To Brickhill Bluff, 5 mi.

0900 depart for Plum Orchard to see the sites

1300 arrive Brickhill Bluff

Afternoon explore The Settlement

May 4:  Brickhill Bluff to Stafford Beach, 7 mi.

0900 depart for Stafford Beach

May 5:  Stafford Beach to Sea Camp to Dungeoness, 6 mi.

0900 depart for Sea Camp dock

late morning hike, explore, and lunch at Dungeoness

Note on carpooling:

We will not have an official group carpool point for this event.  This will save some time in the early morning hours of the first day.  However, we will coordinate with one another via email in case anyone wants to ride together.  Don't forget to compensate your driver if you ride with someone.  I have space for three persons [one to sit in the middle of the truck bench seat] and I will be leaving my house in Marietta at 0500.

A few rules and expectations:

-we are not allowed to have fires in the wilderness area

-we may be able to have a fire at Stafford Beach

-plan to pack out all trash

-no burning plastic of any type in the campfire

-understand this is a group event:

       -you are free to get some alone time once we reach camp, just make sure someone knows of your general whereabouts at all times

       -please don't hike too far ahead of the group at any time

Required Items to Bring:

plus snacks for every day

-water filter or treatment tablets for wilderness area non-potable sources

-containers for a minimum of 3 liters of water

-bear [raccoon] canister or cord and bag to hang your food and any items that have an odor 

-sunscreen and insect repellent

-backpacking tent or hammock shelters only, no large tents

-headlamp and an extra set of batteries, there are no fires allowed

-washcloth, soap, and a towel for the cold shower at Stafford Beach Camp

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:

-Campsite fee

-Roundtrip ferry ticket

-Additional Cost:  You will pay your park entrance fee of $10 on your own when you check-in at the visitor's center.

-Once you add yourself to the waiting list, I will contact you with the various ways to make payment in order to secure your place on the trip.

Make a Payment:Although there is a cost for this event, you do not pay through the AOC. Please review the event details carefully for information about how/where to make your payment.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
*Note:

-There are no refunds for this event.  However, if a qualified participant wishes to replace you, it is possible for you to get a refund after your replacement has been approved, registered, and paid.

-There is no fee adjustment for partial attendance.

-The trip will run rain or shine.

-If the trip is canceled by the Park Service, refunds will be issued based on the cancellation/refund policy of the Park and the Ferry company.
