Itinerary:

Iron Hill trail at Red Top Mountain is a beautiful trail that mostly follows the shores of Lake Allatoona, so there will be plenty of awesome scenery and many photo opportunities.  Iron Hill Trail is a fairly flat 4 mile trail and an excellent hike for beginners. This hike will leave from the Iron Hill Trail parking lot (not the Visitor's Center, but just down the street) and is the blue trail.

Info: This scenic loop trail winds along the banks of Lake Allatoona through a historic area that once was home to an active iron mining community in the mid 1800s. Atlanta Trails says: This scenic adventure explores the meandering shoreline of  Lake Allatoona on the southern end of Red Top Mountain State Park in North Georgia. And though it’s around half of the distance compared to the popular Homestead Loop at Red Top Mountain, the Iron Hill Loop packs easily double the scenic lakeside beauty in a fraction of the length. It’s a view- packed trail, catching view after stunning lake view throughout the hike.

Because of a glitch in the registration process, we've run into the problem of having too many members added to the active list above the maximum limit of 20.  Please be aware that we will be moving members above 20 registrants to the waiting list in the order of their registration times.  People will then be added to the active list as we have withdrawals.

If you don't have a Georgia State Park Pass, there is a $5.00 per car fee. Be sure to bring exact change because it is the honor system/envelope type.

Please arrive a few minutes before the hike is scheduled to begin so you have enough time to pay for your parking and check in with us for introductions. We will depart on time.

There are no restrooms at this trailhead. You can stop at the Visitors Center on your way in (it's mentioned in the directions below).
