Itinerary:

<<< Cucumber Gap Loop from Little River Trailhead >>>

This is one of the most delightful easy hikes in the GSMNP. It’s among the top choices after a few days long trekking in the park. It also leaves the second half of the day open to explore anything else.

We will meet and start at Little River Trailhead, and go along the Little River. There are lots of wildflowers by the trail. We will turn onto Cucumber Gap Trail around 2.5 miles and will be in the middle of the giant trees like tulip popular in the next 2.5 miles. Beware there are lots of roots on the trail along this section.

After that, we’ll do a little treasure hunt to find the Avent cabin because there is no sign of the cabin. The cabin was used as a summer studio and retreat by a noted artist Mayna Treanor Avent (1865 - 1959). We will hike down and cross a log footbridge to reach the treasured landmark.

We will return to Jakes Creek Trail. Then as we walk down the road we’ll pass several old shabby summer homes.

The event duration does NOT include our travelling/ driving time. Our duration time is an estimate, and we need to have some flexibility.
