Itinerary:

Today we'll go from peninsula to peninsula for about 9 miles and 900' of ascent and descent.  This will qualify as a lower D4, but if the heat gets to us we can cut it short and I will downgrade the rating.  I'm giving us 3.5 hours to complete this, which will be possible at a moderate-steady pace. Given the hike length and heat, this is NOT A BEGINNERS EVENT, and regular D3 participation, or more, is requested before signing up.  The terrain is rolling with single track trails, occasional roots and rocks.

We will enter from the park Visitors Center and go south to the Iron Mountain loop for about 6 miles, then head up to the larger visitors center and demonstration iron smelting and log cabin, then out the white trail to a little peninsula with great views of the lake.  We will have a little snack and refreshment there before heading back to the cars.

We will meet at the Visitors Center, which is the first park building just past the intersection of Red Top Mountain Road and Park Marina Road, Cartersville, GA.  As this is a State Park, there is a cost of $5 or use of an annual State Park parking pass. Please arrive 15 minutes early to find a parking spot, get your parking pass, and have time to introduce yourself.

Thanks to Holt Ward for setting up this hike description.
