Itinerary:

NOT FOR BEGINNERS

Join your AOC friends & buddies for a conversational FAST Pace hike along Vickery Creek, in Roswell. We will begin our hike at the Roswell Old Mill Parking Lot at their Covered Bridge for access to Vickery Creek.  This moderately challeging loop (covered with many exposed roots & medium size rocks) explores the hills and banks along Vickery Creek, which powered one of the South's most important mills during the 1800s. It begins at the Roswell's Historical Covered Bridge entrance to Vickery Creek and with the exception of a few short steep stretches alongside the creek-ravine bluffs and gorges, the terrain is fairly level.  We will make a scenic loop, including Roswell's Covered Bridge, with ascending entrance steps to the park & Vickery's Overlook(Moderate for 5 miles).  Additionally, the hike includes a stop at the spillway dam, which fed the mill wheel in a factory downstream. Supplying textiles for Confederate uniforms, the mill was a primary target for Gen. William Sherman whose troops destroyed the facility during the Civil War. The trails along Big Creek are very scenic with the sound of a rushing mountain creek and waterfall.  We will stop and take a few pictures along the trail.  Never know when a Blue Heron might just drop in for a fish or two!

Additionally, during the middle of the Vickery Creek hike, we will walk over to NPS's ajoining Allenbook.  We will log an approx. (moderate) 1 1/2 miles in Allenbrook while observing their many beautiful cliff climbs & continue higher overlooks of scenic Big Creek. You will be hiking on the other side of Big Creek, opposite of our Vickery Creek hike.  Then, we will hike out of Allenbrook along Riverside road for a short distance along the Chattahoochee River.  This portion of our hike will connect us back to our last piece of Vickery Creek & back to the Covered Bridge Parking Lot.

Please arrive a few minutes early to check in or use the adjoining Covered Bridge bathrooms.  If you're running late or can't make it at the last minute, please call Russ at 404-353-3077.
