Itinerary:

I recently have become obsessed with the Pinhoti Trail. It is very cool, not too far from home and seldom done by the AOC. Join me as a do a 15 mile section of this long trail on Johns Mountain.

We start at the Keown Falls Picnic area. A somewhat large parking lot is at the end of a high quality, easily driveable service road. We will start on the Pinhoti trail and stay right at the Keown Falls Loop where a very picturesque climb will take us to the top of Johns Mountain. About half way up we will intersect with the Johns Mountain loop and we will again stay right to stay on the Pinhoti. At about the 1.6 mile point we will be at the top of Johns Mountain where an overlook awaits. From this point we will stay on the Pinhoti and head downhill until we reach the East Armuchee Creek at about the 6.5 mile point. This will be our turn around point. As we head back to the cars we will take the other side of the Johns Mountain and Keown Falls Loops to complete our adventure. Hopefully Keown Falls will be really flowing from our recent rains! Somewhere along the way we will stop for lunch. We will be averaging about 2.8 mph putting our pace at the hign end of the moderate range.

This is a long D5 hike, so recent appropriate experience is required to join the fun.
