Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

From the Paces Mill Boat Ramp Lot, we will hike the hill on the main West Palisades trail and then descend to the two beaches at the river.

Our climb from there takes us to the Akers Ridge parking lot and down the street to pickup the Bob Callan connector. We wll cross the river bridge and then make a right toward Ray's.

We will then be off trail for a bit for some light bushwacking and hill climbing before making our way down the bluff to the beginning of the main East Palisades trail along the river.  We will climb to the overlook deck before preceding further along the river.

After passing the Whitewater Creek lot, we will be off trail along the river as we head toward Cobb Parkway.  This section will include a few water crossings so you may want to have a change of footwear.

We will use the Cobb Parkway bridge to return to our parking lot for the completion of the loop.

The cumulataive elevation gain of 1000 feet is light for a D4 but the trek meets the D4 criteria due to the 9 mile distance, fast pace, and off trial terrain at times.

Required Items to Bring:

clothing

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

From Google Maps, type: Paces Mill Boat Ramp

If you type East or West Palisades, you will be at the wrong lot.

If you use a different app, you will be on Cumberland Blvd with no access to parking.

Notes:

This trek is labeled as exploratory because the leader has not previously done the off trail connections between the two units but has led many hikes of the East and West Palisades units.

This hike is a mile longer but less adventurous (avoiding the rock climbs) than this loop hike of many years ago.
