Itinerary:

We are going back to the Smoky Mountains for this crowd favorite to enjoy some cooler temperatures and spectacular views as we day-hike from Kephart Prong Trailhead to Charles Bunion (about 6 miles), then hop on the AT to the Boulevard Trail which takes us to Mount Le Conte (7 miles). We return to the AT via the Boulvard Trail, head south on the AT til we hit the Sweat Heifer trail which takes us back down to the trailhead (11 miles). We will take a few short breaks along the way to regroup and hydrate. We will also take a longer break for lunch, bathroom and to top off our water at the Mount LeConte Lodge.

This will be a long, tough day as we will hike 25+ miles and gain over 6000 ft of elevation. Therefore, recent D6 experience is required. The trip leader reserves the right to remove someone from the sign-up list. Also, keep in mind that this hike requires a long drive to and from the trailhead. Even by moving at an average speed of 2.5 miles per hour, the hike will likely wrap up late in the afternoon and result in a late return. Headlamps are prudent in case we return to the trail head as the sun is setting.

We are meeting at the event, we will make a short final stop at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center for bathroom break. Please be there, ready to go, by 8:00AM.
