This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join us as we continue our trek down the Talladega National Forest on the Pinhoti Trail. This trail is in the Central timezone, but all times listed are in the EASTERN timezone.

This section of the trail traverses the Dugger Mountain Wilderness. We will start our adventure at the Pink E. Burns Trailhead where ample parking will start us off right. A slow, steady 6 mile ascent will take us to the top of Dugger Mountain where we can expect a typical Pinhoti mountain top consisting of moss covered boulders scattered about a picturesque forest with views into the surronding wilderness. Awesome. From here it is downhill about 2 miles with rock hop-able creeks and cicadas filling our ears until we reach our turn around point at CR 500. After our turn around we will have our steep climb of the day gaining 1200 feet in about 2 miles. Steep by Pinhoti standards, but not too bad for seasoned hikers. As we retrace our steps we will be on the look out for a good lunch spot, probably near a creek where a lunch time swim can cool us off.

This is a high end D5 event, recent D5 experience is required to join the fun.
