For new members and/or members without recent D5 hiking related experience, please email the trip leader explaining your recent long distance hiking experience and hiking pace.  Please don't take it personal, but you may be moved to the waiting list until we hear back from you and approve you for this hike.  We want everyone to have an enjoyable and fun hiking experience.

 

Looking for a simple Saturday hike that is invigorating, fun, scenic, and not a far drive away or an all day event?  If so, join us for this 16 mile loop hike to Springer Mountain and back!  

 We will plan to start the hike at 7:30 AM from the top of the Amicalola Falls parking lot and hike the 'AT' Approach to Springer Mountain and back.  We will only plan on super short breaks and a quick 5-10 minute break at the top of Springer to view the surrounding mountains  and snap a group pic.  We will plan to hike from a moderate to fast pace. 

On our way back, we will pass by the Len Foote Hike Inn but will not be stopping in.  We will continue down the Len Foote Trail to the car parking lot.  We should be back in Atlanta mid afternoon depending on group's hiking speed.

  

 

 

Notes 

Please plan on bringing a  snack to eat during the hike and enough water to drink. 

Itinerary is subject to change before and during event.

Finish time is only an estimate and based on several factors - hiking speed, breaks, etc.

There will not be a sweeper on this hike so if you don't think you can keep up with the group hiking speed, this may not be the hike for you.

From the Park & Ride we will go north on Georgia 400 past the outlet Mall to GA 136. Left on 136 till GA 52. Right until the park entrance. From the entrance, make a left turn when you see the visitors center and continue up to the top of Amicalola Falls parking lot next to the top of the falls. We will gather at the top of the waterfalls (Not the Lodge) parking lot.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
