Itinerary:

Join us for a day of paddling on Lake Tugaloo where we can hopefully still enjoy the Fall colors in all their grandure as is typical of the Lake Tugaloo valley area.

We will paddle northward on the lake to the Chattooga inlet and explore. We'll stop for lunch on  a sandy beach (or other easily accessible point). We will then choose to paddle to the dam for a breathtaking view down the Tugaloo river inlet or not.

This is a full day paddle. The lake has a slight current but mostly flat. Time on the water will vary depending on the lake conditions and can be extensive.

We'll meet at 9:00am near the Jane Hurt Interpretive Center entrance on the side of the road. Look for vehicles with kayaks and canoes. We will follow each other down Stone Place rd to the off road section wherre we can combine gear if you choose not to take your car down the last mile of soft gravel road terrain (as of 2 weeks ago the road was good).

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

From the I-85/ I-285 "Spaghetti Jcn" Interchange in NE Atlanta take I-85 North to I-985.

Continue North on 985 as it changes to US- 23/441 (approximately 93 miles from downtown Atlanta and 65 miles from Spaghetti Junction).

After entering the City Limits of Tallulah Falls and crossing the bridge over the river, look for the sign leading to the Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center on the right (in Tallulah Gorge State Park).

No need to pay for parking as we will be meeting near the Interpretive entrance and then venturing approximately 4 miles down a dirt road to the lake.

NEAR 338 Jane Hurt Yarn Dr, Tallulah Falls, GA 30573

Notes:

If you would like to carpool please contact members in your area.

Disclaimer: The road from the Interpretive Center to the boat ramp is dirt and rough in places. It is identified as requiring 4 wheel drive. I have been down it several times without 4 wheel drive and have seen a Camry, Accord, Explorer, 2wd trucks, mini van, etc. having no problem navigating it. Recently the road was regraveled. Weather affects the road, and it is hard to say what the condition will be when we get there, but I would guess no problem. We can consolidate at the meeting area as much as possible. I will have a 4x4 that can haul persons, boats, and gear down to the lake if prefered.

This is a weather permitting event

We will not paddle in inclement weather
