DUE TO BREAK-INS, LOCK ALL VALUABLES IN YOUR TRUNK and OUT OF SIGHT!

NOT FOR BEGINNERS, DUE TO Somewhat,  FASTER PACE OF HIKE

Join your AOC friends & buddies in our repeated viewing of our favorite residents at Vickery Creek, The Great Blue Heron's Bleau Family, during a conversational hike along CRNRA's Vickery Creek, in Roswell. We will begin our fast pace hike at this CRNRA's Parking Lot for Vickery Creek.  This moderately challeging loop (covered with many exposed roots & medium size rocks) explores the hills and banks along Big Creek, which powered one of the South's most important mills during the 1800s.  With the exception of a few short steep stretches alongside the creek-ravine bluffs and gorges, the terrain is fairly level.  We will make a scenic loop, including observing Roswell's Covered Bridge, with ascending entrance steps in the park (Moderate D-2, for 5.5 miles - made up of some 3.5 mph stretches to average almost 3mph for 2 hours).  Additionally, the hike includes a stop at the spillway dam, which fed the mill wheel in a factory downstream. Supplying textiles for Confederate uniforms, the mill was a primary target for Gen. William Sherman whose troops destroyed the facility during the Civil War. The trails along Big Creek are very scenic with the sound of a rushing mountain creek and waterfall.  We will stop and take a few pictures along the trail.  Never know when Our Great Blue Heron family will drop in for a fish or two at the Covered Bridge!  The Great Blue Heron searches for food 90% of their awake hours.

There are no restrooms at this location.

Please note that there is a $5 parking fee unless you have an annual Chattahoochee River Rec parking pass.  Be prepared to use your phone to pay for parking since the kiosks are no longer accepting cash.

Please arrive a few minutes early to check in.  If you're running late or can't make it at the last minute, please call Russ at 404-353-3077.
