This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

This hike is in the Central Time Zone, but all times listed are in Eastern Standard Time.

Join me as I make my way south on the Pinhoti Trail in the Talladega National Forest. This time I jump ahead to Cheaha State Park. This area boasts the best Pinhoti views in Alabama and also offers a chance to see the wreckage of an old plane crash.

We will start by parking at the Cheaha Trailhead where a large parking area and stone arch greet us. We will start by heading North for 2.2 miles until we hit the Bald Rock Trail.  We will be hiking to Bald Rock in Part II of this hike, so for now, we will turn around, tracing our steps back to the South. As we head south we will come across Hernandez Peak and McDill Point. Both have great views! Just after McDill Point we will venture off trail to the site of an old plane crash. After the crash we continue south on the Pinhoti until we reach the intersection with the Odum Trail. If you were on the Skyway Loop hike last year you will recognize this intersection. This will serve as our turnaround point as we retrace our steps back to our cars. Somewhere along the way we will be stopping for a scenic lunch.

This is a long, difficult hike and we will occasionally be moving at fast speeds, only experience adventurers will be allowed on the event.
