Itinerary:

Sunday looks to be a very rainy day, so trails on Monday will likely be muddy.  Leita Thompson has the most forgiving trails after rain, so let's return there this week. The trails at Leita Thompson are wide and relatively free of rocks and roots, and they drain well.  Though there are changes in elevation, they're moderate and relatively easy to handle.  We'll be moving at a brisk, moderate pace, getting in about 5 miles in 2 hours.

This hike is Russ's 400th AOC event!  Cause for a celebration!

There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta potties throughout the park.

We will start on time, so please arrive a few minutes early to check in and meet your fellow members.

Be ready to turn into the park driveway as soon as you pass through the traffic light on Woodstock Road.  We'll be meeting in the large lot where the Art Center building is located. If you park in the pavilion lot, you'll have to walk up the gravel road to meet the group.  It's best to just drive up the road so that we can all park in the large overflow lot.

Parking is free.

Panera Bread is close by, so it might be an option for lunch!

Required Items to Bring:

Water, gatorade or whatever you like to keep hydrated (important)

Shoes that can take wet trails.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Hiking poles if you like to use them, though the trails are relatively smooth.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

N 34.06258,  W -84.40270

Woodstock Rd, Roswell, GA 30075, USA - just past intersection of Woodstock and Mountain View roads

Roswell, GA 30075

There are three parking lots in the area:  one for the dog park, the second for the arts center  and overflow lot, and the third for the pavillion lot.  We will be parking in the second lot, to the left of the arts center.

From Atlanta take GA-400 N to exit 7B W/Holcomb Bridge Rd in Roswell. Continue west on Holcomb Bridge Rd for 5.7 miles. On your right you will pass Chick-fil-a and Mountain Park Rd. Take the next right immediately after the light. This is the entrance for the dog park and Art Center West.  Make an immediate left for the gravel overflow parking lot

If you pass this entrance, you will come to the main Leita Thompson entrance at the pavilion.  You can turn in here and then take an immediate right up the gravel path to the overflow lot.  Drive up the gravel road through the woods and park at the top of the hill.

Notes:

If you have time after the hike, join us at Panera Bread, just 1/4 mile from the park.

CONGRATULATIONS, RUSS!
