Itinerary:

This will be a challenging D4 for those trying to up their hiking game. We’ll meet at the Gahuti Trailhead in Fort Mountain State Park at 8am with a start time of 8:15am. Our day will encompass a hike of about 10-ish miles with about 1,500 feet of elevation gain. We’ll follow the Gahuti Trail to the Stone Tower Loop and end the hike at Cool Spring Overlook before heading to our cars. Water breaks will be taken about every mile or so and an extended break for lunch.

The Gahuti Trail travels around the edge of the park, passing just below the summits of Cohutta and Fort mountains. Ever changing, the trail is both beautiful and challenging in all seasons. There is a great platform for a west view, and a tower on top of the mountain built by the CCC in the 30's.

The Stone Tower Loop is hiked by traveling uphill on the West Overlook Trail and returning on the CCC Stone Tower Trail. Year-round vistas from West Overlook.

Parking fee is $5.00 unless you have a current GA State Park Pass.
