Itinerary:

Join me as I enjoy the Sope Creek and Cochran Shoals CRNA areas.

We will begin at the Sope Creek Parking lot and head down to the ruins. Today we will cross the Paper Mill Road Bridge and walk by the ruins on the other side of the creek.

After this we will come back across the bridge and head to Sibley Pond, then weave through the many trails into Cochran Shoals. Once in Cochran Shoals we will head through to the bathroom for a break. We will make our way at a fast pace on the asphalt wide path all the way to Interstate North. After another short break, we will turn around and then get off trail hanging a left to the swampy boardwalk.

We will be on hiking trails, bike trails and running trails so consider your footwear.

We gain some significant elevation on the back trails of Cochran Shoals and it can be a bit muddy.

We will then head back taking some of the same and some different trails and weave back to the parked cars. We wil try to avoid the bike trails where we can, but we will be sharing some of them with bikers, so single file and stay right as they come past. We will go past the pond again before we finish to get to our 12 mile mark and gain our last few feet to bring our total up to 1500.

Why is this exploratory? Even though I know these trails well, I want to increase our usual D2 6 mile hike to a D4 12 to 13 ish mile hike for those wishing to do more miles and hit the 1500 ft elevation mark. I will be exploring the routes as I go, but usually its similar as I have now done this hike many times.

If you sign up, be prepared to finish 15 minutes either side of the published finish time.

This is not a beginners hike. We will keep up an aggresive 3mph + for the duration of the hike. This hike will offer 1500 ft of elevation change, so a fast pace should be very manageable.
