Itinerary:

Today's hike is a special one - - to honor Dawn B. as she reaches her first milestone AOC event - - her 100th! Dawn has become a special friend to many during her hikes, and we're so happy she's allowing us to share in her celebration.

About the hike:  It is NOT recommended  for beginners because of the challenging terrain in some places.

This is a unique take on a familiar park.  We'll be hiking through the Interstate North section of Cochran Shoals and continuing into the Columns Drive section, but starting from a different trailhead.  Please pay careful attention for the address and directions to get to the right parking place.

The Interstate North section is the most challenging of the three sections of the Cochran Shoals trails because of the number of steep hills that criss-cross the area.  We'll be starting in a free parking deck at the Wildwood Center (2300 Windy Ridge Parkway SE) and entering the unit from a trail that starts there.

We'll hike through some of the trails in this unit, eventually crossing Gunby Creek into the middle section of Cochran Shoals.  We'll access the gravel path for a short distance and then return to the woods, entering via the crosswalk across the swamp, the usual way we enter the unit.  We'll tackle the trails throughout that area before returning to the Wildwood Center parking deck.

Hiking poles are recommended for some of the hills we'll encounter.
