Itinerary:

Come spend your Thursday with Nate and Ann for a fun hike at Kennesaw Mountain. This is Nate’s third co-lead as part of his AOC TL training. This is an exploratory hike for Nate as well.

The group will meet outside the Kennesaw Mountain Visitor Center. If you can’t find parking space at the visitor center lot, I would recommend finding a spot at the Old 41 Highway Overflow lot and walking from there.

We will head southbound from the Visitor Center up the western loop section to summit Kennesaw Mountain. After a brief stop for pictures, we will continue hiking to Little Kennesaw and Pigeon Hill and down towards Burnt Hickory Road and Hardage Cemetery. From there, we will turn off the Noses Creek Trail and continue on Hardage Mill Trail until Whitlock Avenue.

After that, we’ll continue hiking south on Old John Word Road via the Connector Trail until we get to the fork near Cheatham Hill parking lot where we will ascend on the Assault Trail up to Cheatham Hill and Illinois Monument. The group will take a short break here to rest and have lunch/snacks before descending down the Cease Fire Trail back to Whitlock Avenue.

Next we will continue down the flatter eastern loop section, which consists of Noses Creek, Salem Church, Brumby Camp and Kennesaw Mountain trails before arriving back at the Visitor Center parking lot to complete the hike.

Our total elevation gain for this hike will be around 1900ft. This will be a fast hike with an average pace of 2.5mph and recent D4/D5 experience is recommended.
