Itinerary:

Why stop at Springer Mountain?

The Applachain Trail Approach Trail to Springer Mountain is an AOC staple... Why not go 1.5 miles further and enjoy the Owens Overlook on the BMT?

We will start at the top of the falls on the AT Approach Trail and make our way over Frosty Mountain and Springer Mountain where we will intersect the BMT and make our way to the Owens Overlook.  This overlook is too often overlooked, and it is quite nice. In fact, it is a great place to stop for lunch and enjoy the views, so, that is what we will do.

After lunch, we will retrace our steps back to our cars. We will NOT BE TAKING THE LEN FOOTE TRAIL to the lodge.

This is a difficult hike and we will be maintaining an average pace of 2.7 mph (high-moderate pace). Recent, high D5 or D6 experience is required to join the fun. We cannot slow the pace for this hike and we will not be making frequent stops for hikers to catch up. Stops will be quick for water and snacks and a lunch stop on the overlook.
