Itinerary:

Please join Tim for his 3rd co-lead hike as an AOC prospective trip leader.

This challenging D6 hike will traverse 3 of Georgia's 4000+ ft mountains and will definitely test your fitness. Starting at Vogel State Park we'll follow the Coosa Backcountry Trail plus an added side trip up Blood Mtn for fun.

This is a harder hike than the distance and elevation numbers on the AllTrails map below.  Count on over 17 miles with over 4500 elevation gain.  (Yes, the trails are all open :)

The hike includes a long ascent up Coosa Mtn before intersecting with the Duncan Ridge Trail.  We'll turn south on the DRT descending into Wolf Pen Gap before a short, sharp climb up Slaughter Mtn.  Next we join the AT for an easier than expected climb up Blood Mtn.  Then we'll backtrack to the Coosa Trail and complete the loop back to Vogel.

A pass is needed to park at Vogel Start Park.  A $5 daily pass can be purchased at the park or online at https://gastateparks.org/ThingsToKnow, or you can use your annual State ParkPass.

Due to the difficulty of the hike you need prior strong D6 experience or the equivalent.  Average pace should be 2.5+ mph.  If there are no previous D6 hikes in your profile expect an email to assess your compatibility for the hike.
